Property Overview

Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort is located in Nungwi on Zanzibar’s northern coast, with direct access to the beach. The property is suited to romantic breaks, family holidays and trips with friends, offering spacious accommodation, four free-form swimming pools and a varied programme of resort activities.

Rooms and suites are arranged across different floors, with views extending over the gardens, pools or Indian Ocean depending on the category selected. Large terraces and generous bathrooms are consistent features throughout the accommodation.

Guests have two restaurants and three bars to choose from, including The Cliff, an à la carte venue positioned above Nungwi Beach. The resort also has an open-air gym and a spa offering massages, body treatments and facials prepared with local spices and other natural ingredients.

Distance from Airport

Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort is approximately 65 kilometres from Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Zanzibar City. Transfers by road generally take around an hour, although the journey time can vary according to traffic and road conditions.

Rooms

The resort’s accommodation includes Superior Rooms, Superior Deluxe Rooms, Ocean Suites and the Royal Suite. All categories provide generous space, large bathrooms, flat-screen televisions, tea and coffee facilities, mini-fridges, in-room safes and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Superior Rooms are approximately 78 square metres and occupy the ground and first floors. Renovated in 2020, they have a terrace overlooking the property and are furnished with either one king-size bed or two queen-size beds.

Superior Deluxe Rooms offer the same approximate floor area but are located on the second and third floors. Wall-to-wall sliding glass doors bring in natural light and open towards views of the gardens, pools and ocean beyond.

At the front of the property, the 98-square-metre Ocean Suites have an ocean-facing terrace furnished with a table and chairs. The 300-square-metre Royal Suite occupies the top floor and includes a king-size bedroom, living space, a wide terrace, floor-to-ceiling windows and a private massage bed. It can connect to an Ocean Suite when additional accommodation is required.

Food & Drink

Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort has two restaurants serving international and locally influenced cuisine, supported by produce from the hotel garden, spices purchased from local markets and fish sourced from local fishermen. A Zanzibar-inspired dinner with a barbecue and live band is also held between the illuminated pools once a week.

Spices is the main restaurant, with open-air seating and buffet selections covering international dishes, pasta, pizza, Asian cuisine, fish, seafood and grilled meats. On Saturday evenings, the team dresses in local Swahili attire.

The Cliff is an à la carte restaurant positioned above Nungwi Beach and serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

Mapenzi Bar operates as the resort’s main lounge bar, while Upepo Pool Bar can be reached directly from the water or from the surrounding pathway. Baraza is a two-level beach bar overlooking the sand and ocean.
