Don't Forget Your Travel Insurance
Your next holiday is just around the corner. Between choosing your beach, packing your bags and counting down the days, travel insurance is easy to leave for later. It is worth sorting out early, because many policies only cover cancellation from the day you buy them.

Do I Need Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance is not compulsory for most destinations, but we strongly recommend it. Medical care abroad can be expensive, and a cancelled flight, lost baggage or a sudden illness can quickly turn into an unplanned cost. A good policy helps you cover those costs, so a problem does not spoil your trip. Some destinations also ask for proof of cover: for example, South African passport holders need medical travel insurance when applying for a Schengen visa. Always check the entry requirements of your destination before you travel.
How Do I Get Travel Insurance?
You can take out cover through your usual insurer, online, or through Quintrip. We work with an insurance broker, so you can simply ask us for a quote. Quintrip is not an insurer: the policy, its terms and any claim are handled by the insurer or broker. We recommend buying your cover when you book your holiday.
Is Insurance Priced Per Person?
Usually, yes. The price depends on your destination, the length of your trip, your age, the level of cover and any existing medical conditions. Some insurers offer family or group rates, so ask when you request your quote.
What Does Travel Insurance Usually Cover?
Policies differ, but most include:
- emergency medical and hospital costs;
- medical evacuation and repatriation;
- trip cancellation or interruption;
- lost, delayed or damaged baggage;
- flight delays.
Always read the policy wording for the limits and exclusions. Tell your insurer about any pre-existing medical conditions, otherwise a claim may be declined.
IMPORTANT: The information on this page is provided for general guidance only. Quintrip is a travel company, not an insurer or a financial, medical or legal adviser, and nothing here is insurance, medical or legal advice. Please consult your insurer or broker about cover, and a doctor or travel clinic about your health, and check the official entry requirements of your destination before you travel.
