Overview

On the East Coast, you'll find some of the island's most beautiful beaches and a large variety of accommodations. At least a mile offshore shields Zanzibar's East Coast from the sun's heat and sandstorms.
Among the coconut palms, minor fishing settlements and various beach lodgings can be found. The East Coast of Zanzibar is home to some of the island's loveliest beaches, making it a popular tourist destination.
The accommodations here tend to be larger and are scattered along the palm-fringed coastline. Most beach villas feature excellent swimming pools so that guests may cool off any time of day.
East Coast coral reefs are home to much marine life, and diving and snorkeling opportunities are plentiful. The coral reefs of Zanzibar are home to more than 700 species of fish, including dolphins and sea turtles.

Why East Coast

Beautiful beaches and peace abound on Zanzibar's East Coast, making it a popular destination for tourists looking for a tropical getaway.
Palm palms dominate the terrain, making it a dreamy getaway where you can lose yourself in pleasure and forget about the outside world. The area's strong tides and easterly winds make it a popular spot for kitesurfing in the morning and afternoon.
The East Coast is residence to a wide variety of lodges and hotels. If you are looking for a secluded place to make a memorable trip with your friends and family, it is an ideal location for you.

Things to Do & See in East Coast

Enjoy Romantic Vacation at Pongwe Beach

One of the few East Coast beaches that are not tidal is Pongwe's because it's located in a convex break in the shore. Located on the East Coast of Zanzibar, this beautiful beach offers a calm haven away from the crowds.
If you're looking for a romantic retreat or a peaceful, lonely vacation, Pongwe Beach is your place. Due to the beach's isolation from the mainland during high tide, it's the ideal location for a romantic break. You'll find pristine, white-sand beaches surrounded by thick palm trees.
This one is ideal for laying out on the sand and getting a nice tan. Reading, resting in a lounger, or strolling among the lush vegetation are ways you might spend your day at the beach. Unwind by the outdoor pool, go for a romantic stroll, or enjoy the sun and sand on this beautiful beach.
If the heat of the midday sun becomes unbearable, you can cool yourself under the welcome shade of a palm tree while sipping on a freshly plucked coconut. While relaxing on your beach bed, you can gaze out throughout the turquoise waters to the white-powdery sand.
The only protected area on Zanzibar Island is the Jozani Forest, commonly known as the Jozani See

See Red Colobus Monkeys at Jozani Forest

It's a gorgeous, serene, and must-see destination. In terms of natural treatments, the forest is unsurpassed as a pharmacy of its own. There is a remedy in every plant and tree. The height of the plants and palms on the Jozani forest trip is stunning.
Red Colobus monkeys, a rare species found only on Zanzibar, are popular attractions. There are just a few red colobus monkey sanctuaries left in the universe, and this woodland is one of them.
Besides these monkeys, you may also witness Bushbaby, 50 different kinds of butterflies, and 40 types of birds.
The forest covers an area of 6,207 acres. In the 1960s, it was designated as a wildlife preserve. There are presently between 2,000 and 2,500 monkeys. You can go up close to them, yet they don't seem bothered by your presence – they're incredibly comfortable and unconcerned with your company in their environment.
On either end of the park, you'll find a mangrove swamp. A wide variety of medicinal plants and trees can be found worldwide. An experienced guide is unnecessary because the boardwalk leads only in one direction.
Apart from Zanzibar's numerous tourist attractions, the Jozani forest is a great spot to replenish your batteries.

Visit Paje Beach, a fantastic destination for KiteSufers

Nothing is more beautiful than a beach with white sand, palm palms waving in the breeze, blue waters, and stunning sunset views. Pro and amateur kitesurfers worldwide go to Paje Beach to take advantage of the excellent kitesurfing conditions.
In terms of water activities, Paje Beach is a top pick. Tourists and locals alike flock to the area to try their hand at kite surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
Those who enjoy diving or swimming can benefit from its transparent waters, perfect for exploring the ocean floor.
Snorkeling is an excellent alternative for those who aren't keen on diving. Paje Beach, on Zanzibar Island, is a popular place for kiteboarding because of its reputation as Tanzania's best beach for the sport.
There are also many sea species to see while scuba diving in the warm and clear seas, such as turtles, jellyfish, trumpet fish, and moray eels.
It is possible to watch residents at sea level at Paje beach gathering seaweed used to produce soap by a female cooperative. The soap is sold in local shops and is packaged in banana leaves. Thanks to the soap's natural ingredients, purchasing a bar or two helps the community while also providing attractive benefits to your skin.

Experience Zanzibar's Culture and Vibe at Matemwe Beach

This Zanzibar beach's endless stretch of sand and sea draws visitors in. It boasts some of the best sand on the island, and traditional fishing villages nestled among the palm trees at the beach's back provide a fascinating glimpse into the local culture. To truly experience Zanzibar's culture and vibe, Matemwe Beach is your best bet.
Mnemba Atoll, a renowned scuba diving destination encircled by pristine and easily accessible coral reefs, is located 2 kilometers offshore, just outside the main reef.
Small beach huts and local taverns and restaurants are available for those who wish to remain overnight. A remote beach, this hamlet, is noted for its fishing and seaweed cultivation. You may witness villagers harvesting shellfish and crabs at low tide and fishers and farmers tending to their fields and gardens.
