Property Overview

Zanzibar Bay Resort is a beachfront property in Marumbi on Zanzibar’s east coast. Opened in 2020, it has 104 rooms arranged around the gardens, swimming pools and oceanfront areas, with an African-inspired design and a relaxed resort atmosphere.

There are two large swimming pools, including an oceanfront pool and another suitable for diving sessions, as well as a children’s splash pool. A jetty extends over the Indian Ocean with a bar, sunbeds and a swimming platform.

Guests also have access to three restaurants, four bars, a spa and wellness centre, a gym, daily entertainment and a PADI dive centre. Facilities are shared with the neighbouring Paradise Beach Resort, which is within walking distance.

How far is the nearest beach?

Zanzibar Bay Resort is located directly beside the beach, with the shoreline accessible from the resort grounds. Guests can also use the jetty’s sun deck and swimming platform, which provide an alternative point for entering the ocean when tidal conditions affect swimming from the shore.

Rooms

Zanzibar Bay Resort has 104 rooms across four categories: Standard Rooms, Luxury Rooms, Premium Rooms and Premium Plus Rooms. All include air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, a flat-screen television, tea and coffee facilities, a safety deposit box, mosquito nets and an equipped bathroom with a hairdryer. A mini-fridge is available on request.

The 44-square-metre Standard Rooms are positioned mainly on the ground floor around the upper pool and have terraces overlooking the pool or gardens. Luxury Rooms measure 51 square metres and are distributed across three floors, with views varying between the gardens, pools and ocean.

Premium Rooms provide 60 square metres of space close to the oceanfront pool. The two 95-square-metre Premium Plus Rooms are positioned nearest the beach and have private outdoor space overlooking the pool and ocean.

Zanzibar Bay Resort shares its dining facilities with the neighbouring Paradise Beach Resort, giving guests access to one buffet restaurant, two speciality restaurants and four bars.

Makuti is the main buffet restaurant and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Namaste specialises in Indian-inspired dishes, while Bataar offers Mongolian wok-style dining. The Jetty Bar extends over the Indian Ocean, providing an ocean-facing setting for drinks away from the main pool areas.

The all-inclusive concept includes the three principal meals, morning and afternoon snacks, and a selection of house alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Restaurant opening schedules and the availability of speciality dining may vary during the stay.

A daily entertainment programme provides organised activities during the day and evening. The resort’s facilities include two large swimming pools and a separate children’s splash pool, while one of the main pools is suitable for diving sessions.

The on-site PADI dive centre can assist with diving activities, and the jetty provides a swimming platform extending over the ocean. Guests also have access to a gym and can arrange island excursions or mainland safari trips through the resort’s information and excursion desk.

Beach and ocean conditions change with the tides, which are particularly noticeable along this part of Zanzibar’s east coast. The jetty can therefore be useful when swimming directly from the shoreline is less practical.
